How You Can Maximize Your Botox® Treatments

How You Can Maximize Your Botox® Treatments

Congratulations on deciding to feel good about the skin you’re in by tackling fine lines, wrinkles, and crow’s feet with Botox® or similar injectable neuromodulators like Dysport® and Xeomin® — you’ve made an excellent choice!

Many of our patients at Chrysolite Aesthetics in Houston, Texas, ask Dr. Rawan Abu-Zeitoon if there’s anything they can do to get the most out of their injectable neuromodulator treatments. Keep reading to learn our top tips about how you can maximize your Botox treatment results.

Understanding Botox and other neuromodulators

Botox and other related injectable neuromodulators, like Dysport and Xeomin, minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. They use a neurotoxin that blocks the signal from the injected nerve to the associated muscle.

As you get older, wrinkles and lines develop in places where your facial muscles move your skin. Since neuromodulators block the signal that tells your muscle to move, your muscles don't contract as much as they would without Botox, giving you fewer lines and wrinkles.

After reviewing your goals and examining your skin, your Chrysolite Aesthetics provider uses a very thin needle to inject small amounts of the neurotoxin into your face. The process takes about 10 minutes, and you can continue with most normal activities immediately.

How to get the most from your Botox treatments

Dr. Abu-Zeitoon and her team of professional aestheticians are experts in administering injectable neuromodulators, meaning you’ll love your results after Botox. Here’s a look at our top tips about how you can get the most from these treatments:

1. Have a consultation before treatment

To maximize your results from Botox, take time before your treatment to consult with your provider. A comprehensive consultation ensures your provider understands your aesthetic goals. Sometimes we recommend additional treatments to help you meet your goals.

For example, if you have deeper wrinkles or other skin concerns you’d like to address, your provider may recommend a chemical peel, laser treatment, or other injectables, like dermal fillers.

2. Follow all post-treatment recommendations

Your Chrysolite Aesthetics provider gives you a list of recommended “do’s and don’ts” for caring for your skin after your Botox treatment. These recommendations help make sure your delicate skin has time to heal and include tips like:

You’ll also want to avoid blood-thinning medications and anticoagulant supplements. These products slow down the cells in your blood that help stop bleeding and prevent bruising.

This means you’ll need to avoid medicines like aspirin, NSAIDS (e.g., ibuprofen) and supplements that also act as mild blood thinners (e.g., vitamin E, St. John’s wort, ginkgo biloba).

Talk to your primary care doctor before stopping any regular medications.

3. Take care of your skin

Maximize your Botox results if you take care of your skin after and in between treatments. You may want to talk to Dr. Abu-Zeitoon about a medical grade moisturizer with vitamins that promote skin health, like vitamins A and C.

Be sure to use a moisturizer with SPF or apply sunscreen every day. This protects your skin both from drying out, which can add years to your face. It also prevents photoaging, or premature aging from sun exposure.

Finally, remember your skin is your body’s largest organ. Studies show what you eat and drink affects your skin’s health and appearance. Maximize your Botox treatments by staying hydrated and eating a diet centered on fresh fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds, and lean proteins, like beans and legumes.

4. Find healthy ways to minimize and manage stress

One way to get the most from your Botox treatments is to minimize and manage your stress levels. Stress causes your body to produce higher levels of the stress hormone cortisol. Cortisol thins your skin, making the visible signs of aging more noticeable.

Look for ways to minimize your stress when possible. And by learning healthy stress management techniques, like getting plenty of sleep, regular exercise, meditation, yoga, and other relaxation techniques, you can extend the benefits of your injections.

5. Don’t forget maintenance treatments!

Remember Botox and other injectable neuromodulators aren’t permanent solutions for wrinkles. If you want to get the most from your Botox, plan to come back for quick and easy maintenance treatments about every 4-6 months.

At Chrysolite Aesthetics, we recommend scheduling your next Botox appointment before the results of your previous treatment wear off. Plus, research tells us regular Botox treatments help reduce the formation of new fine lines and wrinkles.
