Does Plasma Really Work for Under-Eye Dark Circles?
Dark circles are one of the most common under-eye concerns, and also one of the most frustrating to treat (Trust me I know!). Creams, concealers, and eye patches may temporarily improve their appearance, but what if you’re looking for a treatment that actually addresses some of the underlying causes?
During my training for aesthetics, I came across Plasma Treatments as an option to rejuvenate the skin; Vampire Facial, Vampire Facelift, O Shot, WingLift, etc. I was FACINATED by the fact that you can rejuvenate your own body with your own blood!!! It felt like the perfect solution with the least risk! But does it really work?
During my work in aesthetics, I was reading posts and articles from other well known names in the field questioning if it really does the job that “in books” supposed to do! So I did what any respectable physician would do; I tried it on myself!! I ended up doing two undereye plasma treatments. But, did it work? Well, let’s just say I didn’t really pay attention until 4 months later when I looked in the mirror one day and was amazed by how my undereye looked (pictures are my eyes by the way ;)
But How Does Plasma Help the Under-Eye Area?
Let’s talk science!
Plasma treatments begin with a small blood draw. The blood is processed to concentrate components that contain platelets and growth factors. These are then used to stimulate your body’s natural healing and regenerative processes. Some of those factors stimulate the growth of healthier skin cells, some allow older cells to recover and survive longer, and last but not least some of those factors have a “neovascularization effect” that is, stimulating new blood vessels to grow! New blood vessels mean more oxygenation and more nutrition, which eventally means healthier tissue!...
Unlike traditional dermal filler, plasma treatments focus on gradual tissue rejuvenation and collagen stimulation.
For the under-eye area, this may help improve:
- Thin, crepey skin
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Mild under-eye hollowness
- Skin texture and quality
- Certain types of dark circles
- Tired-looking eyes
Because the treatment uses material derived from your own blood, it can be especially appealing to patients looking for a more natural approach to under-eye rejuvenation.
Will Plasma Get Rid of Dark Circles?
This is where understanding the cause of your dark circles becomes important.
Dark circles can develop for several reasons. Sometimes the skin beneath the eyes is extremely thin, allowing underlying blood vessels and structures to show through. In these patients, improving skin quality and collagen may make the area appear brighter.
In other cases, the darkness is actually caused by shadowing from under-eye hollowness or tear troughs. Restoring some volume and improving the surrounding tissue can reduce that shadow.
However, plasma cannot correct every type of dark circle. If your discoloration is primarily caused by pigmentation, genetics, allergies, or prominent blood vessels, other treatments may need to be considered. Having that said I always think of undereye plasma as a way to “hide imperfections”. The skin improvement resulting from the plasma can help alleviate some of the causes that result in undereye dark circles.

Plasma vs. Under-Eye Filler
One of the most common questions we hear is: Should I get plasma or filler under my eyes?
Dermal filler can provide more immediate volume correction for appropriately selected patients. Plasma-based treatments tend to produce more gradual and subtle changes, with an emphasis on improving the quality of the tissue itself.
For patients who don't want traditional filler, or who simply prefer a more natural-looking, regenerative approach, plasma can be an excellent option.
In some cases, we may also recommend plasma gel (we’ll talk about EZ Gel in another blog ;), which uses your own blood-derived product to provide additional support and volume while still avoiding traditional hyaluronic acid filler.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
Plasma rejuvenation isn't an overnight transformation. Improvements typically develop gradually as the tissue responds and collagen remodeling occurs.
Many patients benefit from a series of treatments, although the exact number depends on your anatomy, age, skin quality, degree of hollowness, and treatment goals.
Is Under-Eye Plasma Right for You?
The most important step is determining why your under-eyes look dark in the first place.
At Chrysolite Aesthetics in Houston, we evaluate the under-eye area individually before recommending treatment. Depending on the cause, your treatment plan may include plasma/PRF, plasma gel, or another approach.
The goal isn't simply to “fill” the under-eye area. It's to create a brighter, smoother, more refreshed appearance while keeping your results natural.
If dark circles, hollowness, or crepey under-eye skin are making you look more tired than you feel, schedule a consultation with Chrysolite Aesthetics to find out whether plasma under-eye rejuvenation may be right for you.
